North ruled out of Kiwi series

Wales winger George North will miss the rest of their tour of New Zealand after being sent home because of a hamstring problem that may require surgery, says coach Warren Gatland.

North suffered the injury in last weekend’s 39-21 defeat to the All Blacks in the first Test at Eden Park.

Gatland says: “They’re not sure if he needs an operation or not.

“It’s unfortunate because it’s a big loss for us. Hopefully he gets a good break in the off-season and comes back.”

All Blacks still keep their cool

All Blacks coach Steve Hansen says several questions were answered in their 39-21 win over Wales last weekend.

But the biggest answer was that they could still keep their |composure in a tight game.

He says: “For large parts of the game it wasn’t perfect by any stretch of the imagination but what we did learn out of that was having to learn to keep our composure, keep our cool under pressure and to see them come through and |finish the game as well as we did was very pleasing so we’re really happy.”

Aussies to work on ill-discipline

Australia will spend the week working to improve their discipline and decision-making ahead of the second Test against England on Saturday, according to flanker Scott Fardy.

The Wallabies found themselves on the wrong end of a 15-8 penalty count, and referee Romain Poite sin-binned Scott Sio for collapsing a scrum in the second half of their 39-28 first test defeat.

Fardy says: “Discipline is a big part. That’s what got England the game; six penalties they kicked – when you score four tries to two before the 79th minute and you’re still behind, it’s a disappointing thing.”
