The 27-year-old man shot and killed himself, and three other suspects aged 21, 26, and 28 were arrested following a robbery in Dutywa, Eastern Cape, police said yesterday.
Cops were alerted to the robbery in progress at a shop owned by a Bangladesh national in Bholothwa village, Dutywa, at about 2pm on Saturday.
Spokesman Captain Jackson Manatha says: “Police responded and cornered the suspects. The 27-year-old suspect pulled his firearm (9mm pistol) and shot himself dead. He was out on bail on robbery cases. The other suspects were arrested. The firearm had four rounds of ammunition. The deceased was identified but his identity will [be] withheld until his next of kin have been informed of his death.”
The suspects would appear in the Dutywa Magistrates’ Court today on charges of business robbery, Manatha added.
