Four suspects have been arrested for the rape and murder of this 17-year-old girl who was stabbed to death following a robbery.
Nadia Monyeni, 17, was out with friends on Saturday night when they were ambushed by a gang of six men who wanted to take their Carvella shoes, worth between R2 000 and R30 00 a pair.
When the Grade 9 learner objected, she was attacked by the group who raped and stabbed her before leaving her for dead and fleeing with her shoes.
Her uncle, Mawethu Moyeni, picked up her bloodied body lying on the side of the road in the early hours of Sunday morning and rushed her to hospital where she was pronounced dead.
“When I got there she was bleeding from the chest,” he says.
“Her friends told us they were surrounded by a group of guys who wanted to rob them of their shoes and when she started arguing, they went for her. What happened after that we don’t know.”
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk says: “Police have arrested four suspects in connection with the murder, two of the suspects are 18-year-olds and the two others are 19 years old.”
“They are arrested on charges of murder, rape and robbery and are expected to appear in Khayelitsha Court as soon as they are charged.”
