The police have launched an investigation after a suspect escaped from a scene where cops confiscated almost 5 000 perlemoen worth an estimated R600 000 near Lwandle in Strand.
Captain FC van Wyk says members of the SAPS K9 Unit were busy with patrols when they spotted a suspicious black Mazda Double Cab on the N2 highway near Lwandle travelling in the direction of Cape Town.
“Members immediately followed the vehicle, pulled it over at the corners of Onverwacht Street and N2.
“Soon after bringing the vehicle to a stop, the driver fled the scene,” states Van Wyk.
Upon closer inspection, cops discovered 4 707 perly in plastic bags inside the bakkie.
“An investigation is underway,” adds Van Wyk.
