A-57-year-old man is expected to appear in court this week after police arrested him with a truckload of dagga valued at R3.8 million.
The man was nabbed on the N1, on the Huguenot Bridge near the toll gate exit on Monday.
Police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana says: “Police members attached to the Cape Town Cluster Crime Prevention unit received information about a transport truck on the N1 freeway which was alleged to be carrying large amounts of dagga.”
She said police pulled over the transport company truck close to the Toll gate exit in the direction of Cape Town and conducted a search of the truck.
“A search of the truck revealed a hidden compartment in its chassis. This compartment was made of wood and fitted onto the undercarriage of the truck,” she said.
The compartments were searched as well as the cargo hold of the truck and 25 large bags containing dagga were discovered.
Rwexana said the dagga weighed 774kg and has an estimated street value of R3.8 million.
The suspect will appear in the Paarl Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, on charges of drug dealing.
