A total of 12 700 units of abalone was seized.

Police arrested a suspect with abalone worth about R1.5 million, which he had hidden in a storage unit in Table View.

“Yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon members of Table View police arrested a 27-year-old suspect for the possession of abalone after reacting on a tip-off from the community,” says police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut.

“Upon searching the premises, a total of 12 700 units of abalone with a street value of R1.5 million were confiscated.”

Traut says the suspect, a foreign national, was arrested on a charge of illegal possession of abalone and is due to make a court appearance in Cape Town shortly.
