Just two days after a top cop pointed out she had violated her parole conditions, the whistleblowing drag queen Queenie Madikizela-Malema was picked up by prison officials.
Her re-arrest came hours before Queenie, aka Sylvano Hendricks, was supposed to meet with the Daily Voice for an exclusive tell-all interview about certain high-profile politicians in the Western Cape.
The Department of Correctional Services confirmed Queenie was nabbed at the Sun1 Hotel in Parow yesterday morning, and will serve the rest of her sentence in jail for a fraud conviction.
In contravention of her parole conditions, the drag diva was staying at a secret location outside Cape Town fearing for her life.
A source reveals she snuck into town in the BMW X5 of a notorious gangster, and booked into the hotel around midnight on Wednesday under another name.
DCS spokesperson Carla Williams confirmed her arrest.
“Sylvano Hendricks, also known as Seveno Hendricks, also known as Queenie was arrested by SAPS and is in our custody,” she says.
“We cannot divulge information about where he is currently held for security reasons.
“He was placed on parole in 2014 and his parole conditions clearly stated that he may not change his residential address without prior notice and consent from Correctional Services.
“The offender eluded the department since 28 August 2016.
Williams adds: “He now faces charges of absconding and a case was opened against him according to section 117 (e) of the Correctional Services Act.
“He is required to serve the remainder of his sentence which amounts to 325 days.”
Queenie was convicted of fraud after operating a pyramid scheme on the Cape Flats.
On Wednesday, the Daily Voice reported that guesthouse owner Jacques de Bruyn was accusing Queenie of theft after she failed to pay a R87 000 bill, and of stealing his wife’s car.
De Bruyn, who owns Wolwedans Backpackers in Groot Brakrivier, also claimed he spoke to Community Safety MEC Dan Plato who promised to pay the bill.
Plato has denied this, and yesterday said he was not aware of Queenie’s re-arrest.
Queenie also had beef with Major-General Jeremy Vearey, saying she was responsible for his demotion two years ago.
Vearey has accused Plato of paying Queenie to spread lies about him, and said he had confirmed with DCS that Queenie was in violation of her parole.
Vearey did not reply to queries for comment on Thursday.
