Shortly after students met with Finance Minster Pravin Gordhan, students and riot police clashed.
Plein Street resembles a mini warzone as students burn rubbish, smash windows and pelt cops with rocks.
Cops retaliate with stun grenades after a burning box was thrown at them.
Students started chanting "let us fight" after Nzimande failed to engage with them.
Sirens can be heard throughout the city as students and law enforcement continue to clash as riot police try to bring the situation under control.
