‘Proteas are too good’

A HAPPY MAN: Proteas captain and star Faf du Plessis

Skipper Faf du Plessis says he's proud of the squad's performance.

Proteas skipper Faf du Plessis says his manne had all the answers as they
celebrated an amazing 5-0 ODI series whitewash of archrivals Australia.

South Africa hit the final nail in the visitors’ coffin with a thrilling 31-run victory at Newlands over the No.1-ranked ODI side in the world.

And Faf says: “I am very proud of the guys. We had all the answers.

“A lot of credit to us as a team. Right through the series at
different times, different guys stepped up.

“Whatever was thrown at us, we had the answers.

“You could see that in the brand of cricket we played.

“We were just too good for them.”

The Proteas now switch modes for their next assignment, when they go to
Australia for a three-Test series.

With AB de Villiers ruled out for the tour next month, Faf will be taking the reins of the team.

And he wants to keep his team’s tails up for the contest, which will include South Africa’s first day-night Test.

Faf adds: “This was a really important match for us, to take some momentum over to the Tests.

“It was important to give us momentum for the tour and it is nice heading over there [to Australia] with 5-0.”
