Power failure in court

GONE: Simba Mhere and Kady-Shay O’Brien

Culpable homicide trial postponed as recording machines in the court could not be turned on.

The trial of motorist Preshalin Naidoo, who was involved in a crash in which Top Billing presenter Simba Mhere and his friend Kady-Shay O’Brien were killed, was postponed on Wednesday due to a power failure at Randburg Magistrates’ Court.

State prosecutor, Dinesh Nandkissor, explained to magistrate David Mahango that owing to a power failure, the entire court precinct was operating on back-up power.

He said as a result the plugs were not working, which meant recording machines in the court could not be turned on.

Mahango said the court could not proceed and postponed the matter to December 12.

Naidoo 24, faces two charges of culpable homicide relating to the car crash in Fourways Johannesburg, last year.
