Hip Hip Hooray it’s Suidooster’s birthday.
On Wednesday the kykNET soapie celebrated its first birthday and all the on screen drama they served up in the past 12 months.
The soap, based in the fictional Cape Town suburb of Ruiterbosch, is the first local soapie to have a Muslim family on screen.
Director for kykNET channels at M-Net Karen Meiring says: “Suidooster’s Samsodien family are these days one of the most loved Afrikaans characters on TV and ‘shukran’ en ‘kanalla’ is op almal se lippe.”
The actors also celebrated the milestone with a lekker stukkie birthday cake.
Jill Levenberg, who plays Mymoena Samsodien, said on Facebook: “Thank you to everyone who has supported us this year!! To all the fans of Suidooster, lots of love & blessings!!! #Mymoena”
Over the past 12 months, Suidooster has brought fans a hostage drama when the October family were held hostage, Jerome October got involved with a skoolkind and Lee-Anne Jacobs returned to her family home opening up old wounds, while run-away bride Nicki October shocked everyone.
The soapie was a hit since it launched and initially was only broadcast three days a week, but in July kykNET added an extra episode to the TV schedule on Thursdays.
