Cops are searching for skelms believed to be on a crime spree.

Suspected car thieves tried to steal three vehicles but ended up running away from cops on foot.

Cops recovered a stolen VW Polo TSI, an Isuzu bakkie and another car.

Police say the crime spree started at about 2am when thieves stole Hendry Hendriks’ Isuzu bakkie from his yard in New Crest, Villiersdorp.

Hendry’s wife Sophie says they were woken by the sound of speeding vehicles.

“A short while later a neighbour came to say the thieves tried to steal our bakkie but left it in the next [Kingfisher] Street,” says Sophie.

They then discovered that the skelms put their bakkie’s battery into another car they tried to steal in the area.

“Those people take out their battery at night that’s why the thieves put our battery in that car,” explains Sophie.

While the skelms were still busy installing the battery, cops arrived at the scene and they sped off in a silver grey Polo which is believed to have been stolen from a woman in Kuils River.

The cops chased the four suspects and managed to corner them in Pakamisa Street. The skelms then fled on foot and disappeared between the houses.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed the incidents.

“They used a suspected stolen car to commit the crimes. The suspects fled the scene. No arrests have been made yet and the investigation continues,” says Van Wyk.
