CLASHED WITH OSCAR: Charlotte Mashabane.

A senior health official at the Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Services Centre in Pretoria yesterday told the court Oscar Pistorius acted like a spoilt brat in jail.

The official said she had several clashes with the convicted murderer during his 12 months at the tronk.

In one instance, the former Paralympian demanded that his medication be sent in by his family, but she refused because a prison doctor gave him similar medicine, Charlotte Mashabane, assistant health manager at the prison said under cross-examination by Advocate Barry Roux SC, for Pistorius.

“I explained to him the procedures and that I was not going to give him that medication. He started with anger, saying I must give him his medication. He said it with attitude. I don’t know how to describe it,” she says.

Mashabane said that medication had not been authorised and could not be handed to Pistorius.

On another time, she entered Pistorius’ cell with other prison staff and he became angry and told them to leave.

“He said he was still sleeping and we were disturbing him. He shouted ‘get out’. I explained to him that we were doing routine checks on inmates,” said Mashabane.

The trained nurse said Pistorius covered his head with a sheet and the prison officials left for another cell.

In another incident, Mashabane said Pistorius insisted in being attended to by a certain Dr Van Wyk, because he thought the prison doctor and other officials were incompetent.

Mashabane also told the court that after three “confrontations” with Pistorius, a senior prison official instructed her to avoid dealing with the athlete.
