Piedt: I’ll get the wickets

Lone spinner Dane Piedt

Dane confident that he'll perform against the Kiwis on Saturday.

Dane Piedt is confident he can make an impact as the lone spinner in the Proteas side.

And he believes he knows how to take wickets even on a green top  suited to seam and the South African pace attack.

Ahead of the first Test against New Zealand at Kingsmead tomorrow, the Cape Cobras ace says he and spin consultant Claude Henderson have a plan against the Black Caps.

He tells reporters: “I bowl a lot of overs, spin deliveries which gets a lot of bounce and brings in the bat pads and the leg slips.

“Bounce has always been key here.

“Claude Henderson told me he once took five wickets on a green surface.

“Hopefully the moisture around will bring some reward to me.”

The Athlone laaitie says he can also contribute with the bat.

He adds: “If you look at England, they bat down to number 10.

For us, we need to keep contributing down there.

“I took a lot of confidence in my last Test, sharing a 90-run partnership with Quinton De Kock.

“Quinny probably scored 89 of those runs but that helps set up Test matches beautifully.”
