Jurgen Klopp believes Philippe Coutinho is only at the beginning of his recent development into a superstar.
The Liverpool No.10 carried his outstanding club form onto the international stage during the past week, helping Brazil to two wins in World Cup qualifying, scoring with a trademark drive against Argentina.
Ahead of the Reds’ trip to Southampton, Klopp says Coutinho is just getting started.
The German reckons: “My feeling and my opinion is that he fits really well here. We all hope and think that his future is here at Liverpool. But everybody forgets when they think about Phil that he is still very young.
“So you say ‘Now he is the player we dreamed of’. Nice.
“He’s 24, so still young and a long way to go and a lot of space for improvement and a lot of space for development.”
The boss is also not concerned about the international break checking the momentum of his Premier League leaders.
He adds: “Absolutely not. That’s not because I don’t think about momentum – momentum is something you can talk about after the game and then we can say we have to use the momentum again, but nobody knows how it works.
“What’s momentum before the game? Let’s try to do our best, let’s try to play football, let’s try to do what we spoke about…”.
