Cops have caught a dief red-handed trying to sell the eggs of endangered penguins to the public.
Members of the City’s Law Enforcement Marine Unit says the man, 30, was apprehended on Tuesday in Glencairn in possession of two African Penguin eggs.
The suspect was taken to Simons Town Police Station where he was arrested.
It is believed the eggs were harvested from the popular Boulders Penguin Colony.
Wayne Dyason, of the City’s Law Enforcement Marine Unit, confirmed the arrest.
“The eggs were safely handed over to Sanparks staff at Boulders for continued incubation,” adds Dyason.
“In 2010 they were reclassified from a vulnerable to an endangered species.
“There are only 21 thousand breedings pairs left in the world,” he says.
