CAMPAIGNING: Mayor de Lille

Cape Town's mayor welcomes 11 ANC veterans to the Democratic Alliance.

Democratic Alliance leader, Mmusi Maimane, along with provincial leader Patricia De Lille went on the campaign trail on the Cape Flats yesterday.

The DA leaders visited Gugulethu, Crossroads and Khayelitsha.

DA supporters were kwaad when Maimane failed to show at their last stop, where De Lille apologised.

“I was next to Mmusi when he received the call, he had to catch a flight at 5pm to be in Nelson Mandela Bay, he sends his apologies,” De Lille told the crowd at St. John’s Church in Khayelitsha.

Meanwhile, the DA Cape Town mayoral candidate said she could sense victory for her party in next week’s municipal elections.

“I can see victory, I can taste victory. We will be expanding our governance as we want to govern outside of the Cape too. The DA will be taking Nelson Mandela Bay too. Tata Madiba will be turning in his grave, but he will also be resting well knowing the DA has taken over,” De Lille stated.

The rally at St. John’s Church also saw 11 ANC veterans cross over to the DA.

De Lille welcomed the new recruits.

To loud applause, De Lille said: “If veterans decide to leave the ANC then we should know the ANC of today is no longer the ANC of Tata Madiba.”
