It’s been more than 10 years since I’ve had dreads and after seeing Morgan Freeman in Ben-Hur, I’ve decided grey dreadlocks will look cool on me too.
I’ve always liked the natural look on people, so I was interested to read a recent study that revealed that braids and hair straightening are causing abnormal hair loss in young South African women.
I must admit, I’m not surprised, because I’ve been noticing women with abnormally large foreheads recently.
All those years of having your hair pulled back tight by braids, must eventually have an effect. As for straightening, why?
Previously the argument was that advertising was misleading us into believing that white skin and straight hair was better than a kroeskorrelkop.
These days, almost all the ads I see are with brown-skinned people showing off their beautiful, natural curls.
The modelling industry is now also encouraging their dark-skinned models to forego the weaves and the straighteners. So there’s no more excuse!
And if you ladies are doing it for the men, trust me, most of the guys I know appreciate the real, natural you.
Remember, you’ll never find a real man while being the fake you.
