The wait for the rugby season is finally over.
This coming weekend, Robbie Fleck’s Stormers will play their first official pre-season match when they tackle the Cheetahs in Zimbabwe.
While 2016 was a season to forget, will they do any better in 2017?
I have my doubts, but what I really want to see is the battle of the flyhalves.
In youngsters Jean-Luc du Plessis and Robert du Preez, Fleck unearthed some gems at pivot.
Add schoolboy sensation Damian Willemse to the mix and it’s exciting times in Cape Town.
Both Du Plessis and Du Preez should be better equipped to play like true generals this season after gaining some valuable experience last term.
Willemse is supposed to be the next big thing, but I doubt whether he will be exposed much this year.
The midfield is another position in which we should see some interesting decisions by Fleck.
Juan de Jongh and Damian de Allende are the two Springboks in the team, but in all honesty, Huw Jones was better than both of them last season.
The Scotland international will not be happy with sitting on the bench and with his national team’s mense wanting him to play over there, I reckon it won’t be long until we see Jones jetting off and leaving Fleckie short on options.
