While the rest of the country will enjoy national braai day on Monday, rugby action at City Park will also be heating up.
It’s finals day of the President’s Cup and the guys at Western Province are expecting fans to come out in their numbers for the event.
The main match will see Super League A champions Maties square off against Hamiltons at 4.30pm.
And while the President’s Cup has been a bit of an afterthought so far, it is expected that teams will field their big guns for these finals.
The Super League A bottom final between UniMil and Victorians should be a cracker of a game.
Kicking off at 12pm, coach Isma-Eel Dollie’s men have been the giant killers this season.
FINAL: Milnetrton;s Isma-Eel Dollie
With the likes of Dean Tattersal and the experienced Lucian Bowie among their backs, the men from Milnerton should give Vics a proper run for their money.
They have every opportunity to end the season on the ultimate high by claiming some silverware in their first season in Super League A.
The curtain-raiser for the Maties/ Hamiltons clash will be Franschhoek against Hamlets.
STELLIES TEST: Hamiltons looking for a huge upset
Hamlets, coached by former Bulls wing Gavin Passens, are not scared to take the ball wide, meaning this should be an entertaining encounter.
The Super League B’s bottom final will be contested between Rangers and Young Peoples.
There will also be some Super League C action when Vineyards and Scottsdene tackle each other at 1.30pm, while Kylemore and Strand United will fight it out for the bottom prize.
Commenting on the day’s events, Western Province president Thelo Wakefield says: “Club rugby is the lifeblood of our game in Western Province, and it is always great to see the passion that the President’s Cup creates.
“There are 110 clubs in Western Province which span a wide range of different communities, and truly bring people together. We look forward to some quality rugby, and a celebration of club rugby.”
Tickets for the day are priced at R10, while you get free entry if you wear a club jersey.
