This is the big week for Springbok coach Allister Coetzee.
The South African Rugby Union (Saru) announced last week that they will make an announcement on the coach and the future of the Springboks shortly.
It’s expected that Coetzee will stay in charge of the national team.
Either that, or they might shock the world by bringing back Jake White, who has been replaced at Montpellier by Vern Cotter.
White is a good technical analysis and will be a good addition to the coaching staff if they can get him in that role.
Egos in South Africa, though, are a big thing and I can’t see Coetzee and White working together again.
The same can be said for Rassie Erasmus and Coetzee.
Problem is, we’re losing expertise to foreign teams in this country.
Brendan Venter, who signed for Italy until the World Cup in 2019, knows the hele se ins and outs of SA Rugby after running their Coaching Indaba at the end of last year and surely this can’t be good for the national team.
Then you have Erasmus over in Ireland.
A man who worked at Saru’s mobi unit before jetting off to Munster, again also knows all there is to know about SA Rugby and the Irish will be silly not to go “undercover” with Rassie when they face the Boks.
Somehow, I don’t think Saru really has control over the situation and as it stands, it looks to me like Mark Alexander and his brasse are actually the ones making the groot mistakes – not the players and the coach.
