Nee! O f**, boys.
We’re a special generation. That’s for sure.
Ever since the Springboks started playing rugby in 1891, no one has seen what we’ve seen over the past few years.
And we’ve seen some pretty “special” things.
Remember the defeat to Japan at the 2015 World Cup?
Remember losing to Italy for the first time last year?
Then there is Saturday when the Boks suffered their worst defeat in history when they lost 57-0 to the All Blacks in Albany.
We expected the Springboks to lose to New Zealand, what we probably didn’t expect was for Allister Coetzee’s men to be so k**.
South Africans wanted their players to show some fight - which they didn’t.
The only problem is that most of the players that took the field on Saturday aren’t good enough to play international rugby.
I’d said before the match that Coetzee should have made some changes.
His current squad is not exciting enough and relying on “brotherhood” only gets you so far.
You need skills and talent to compete against the best.
Allister and his selectors, though, are bang.
WORTH A SHOT: Bulls' Warrick Gelant
And I reckon the only way for him to win back some fans after the latest cock-up is to make wholesale changes.
I’m going to start in the front-row instead of the back-three, maybe when I get there a little later I’ll be less bedonnerd.
Tighthead Ruan Dreyer again proved that he is not an international player.
I personally believe he is one of those guys that had his reputation tarnished by reaching the top level.
The Lions man should have been the guy at a braai in Potchefstroom that everyone believed should have been a Springbok.
They should name him Tjoppie also - he looks like someone that should have a nickname like that - and was once again grilled at international level on Saturday.
And his claim to fame should have been that he was a “guy that should have played for the Boks”. I believe this would have given him more respect among his peers.
Toetie should give Wilco Louw a go in Bloemfontein against Australia.
BUITEPERD: Young Wilco Louw
Then let’s see what Bongi Mbonambi can do in a Bok No.2 jersey. I’m not a big fan, but he can’t do worse than Malcolm Marx at lineout time on Saturday.
Just to keep freshening up the team, I’d give Steven Kitshoff a start.
At lock, Franco Mostert failed to call the lineouts properly and should be replaced by SA’s Player of the Year Pieter-Steph du Toit.
To change it up, I’d even rest Eben Etzebeth and give the captain’s armband to Siya Kolisi - that should provide enough distraction in the build-up to the Wallabies game.
Dan du Preez deserves to start in the place Uzair Cassiem, while Jean-Luc du Preez can have one more shot in the No.7 jumper.
In the backline, Francois Hougaard should be shipped back to England.
We don’t have scrumhalves in this country, but again I believe Jano Vermaak’s experience might be a valuable addition.
Let’s leave Elton Jantjies at No.10 for now. A brave call would be to play Curwin Bosch, but I’ve said before that I don’t think he is ready for the big time just yet.
The Springbok midfield is as blunt as a hammer. Jan Serfontein has been steady at times, while Jesse Kriel gives you at least one balls-up per match.
Let’s see what Rohan Janse van Rensburg and Francois Venter can do.
DESERVING: Rohan Janse van Rensburg
In the back three, Andries Coetzee, Raymond Rhule and Courtnall Skosan should all be playing Currie Cup rugby.
Dillyn Leyds must be gatvol of sightseeing by now and I’m pretty sure if he was given the opportunity to start for the Boks, he wouldn’t disappoint.
Coetzee mentioned that he was impressed with Warrick Gelant while the Bulls fullback was in camp. So call him up.
Die Vader alleen weet he can’t be worse than Coetzee.
As for the other wing, Coetzee can even give Damian de Allende a run if he doesn’t want to risk his “continuity” too much.
Personally, I’d take a closer look at Sharks flyer Sbu Nkosi.
THREAT: Sharks winger Sibusiso Nkosi
That would give him a young side and a more believable excuse.
But if you stick to a tried and tested team that can’t deliver the X-factor, there is no way you can talk of a young group.
Be brave Toetie, it’s the only way forward. Otherwise you’ll end up with regrets...
