Once again, England have failed at a major tournament.
The Three Lions have now not won a trophy in 50 years - the 1966 World Cup.
Every time a tournament comes around, the English media hype up their team and every time, they are disappointed.
It’s a love-hate relationship that us South Africans can relate to with the Proteas.
Both teams have some of the most lauded players on the planet.
But when it comes to the crunch, the manne can’t haal uit en wys.
Coming into the Euros, Roy Hodgson’s team had won all of their qualifying games.
Their form really had the continent talking and with the Premier League stars they could boast in the team, many rivals were keeping an eye on them.
But all they had to do was wait for them to do a Proteas and choke.
There they were, playing against a team co-coached by a dentist and they were embarrassed.
It wasn’t even like it was close either. Iceland completely outplayed the likes of Wayne Rooney, Harry Kane, Jack Wilshere, Raheem Sterling, Dele Alli and Jamie Vardy.
The Icelandic players said they felt that the big-money Poms were disrespecting team and that just fired them up even more.
Apparently goalkeeper Joe Hart was trying to psych up his players by saying: “ We can’t lose to this lot” and “We’ll have to be better than this against France”.
One Iceland player even overheard Kane ask the referee if they were out of the tournament if they lost when they came out of the tunnel at half time.
Sjoe. If it was really like that, then the players are even more embarrassing than th eyoung people of Britain who were voted out the European Union by the older generation.
