Cape Town is in for lekker treat as the legendary Boeta Fuad Richards celebrates his 50th anniversary in entertainment this month with a gevaarlike show.
“The Stars of Cape Town” takes place at Spine Road High School on Saturday night.
Boeta Fuad has been performing since the tender age of nine and is well respected in all circles of entertainment innie Kaap.
He is what we call a Nederlands- liedjie king and won his first Malay choir trophy at the age of 14 as the voorsinger of the Breakaways singkoor.
The king of karingkels is a born star and over the past 50 years he has remained one of the most loved entertainers in the Cape.
The charismatic Mr Richards has been blessed with a voice of gold and a smile that makes the tieties go crazy.
The family man says his backbone has always been his wife of the past 39 years.
The legend also crossed over from singing liedjies and ballads and crooning with the Kaapse Klopse and the Great Pretenders to recording qasidas(religious music).
When asked what his favourite qasida is, he replies: “Shaarafaat.”
He is one local entertainer who managed to sing his way into our hearts and bring joy to thousands over the years, but still remains religiously conscious of the Man above.
This within itself is a tribute to the character of this legend.
To me, Mr Richards is the embodiment of Kaapse kultuur, and his show this weekend will showcase both established and up and coming talent.
“Ek is lief om die up and coming talent a platform te gee en met die show kan ek my vyftig jaar celebrate en nog altyd hulle talent ook showcase,” he says.
The star-studded line-up includes Madheega Anders (from District 6 The Musical), Austin Rose (Noem my Skollie fame), Monox, Alan the carguard, Nur Abrahams, A2 (Cape Town’s Peaches and Herb), Waseef Piekaan, Ekraam Cupido from Protege, and Cape Town’s Sons, Fuad Richards jnr. and Ridhaa, and more.
Mr Richards has been blessed with a family wat kan sing, yes, all of his children and grandchildren were born met die oupa se stem.
They will also be headlining this event under the Richards family brand.
Mr Richards says: “My familie is my alles.”
So make your way to Mitchells Plain this weekend and help us celebrate the legacy of this local entertainment legend.
