The scary truth is, he’s right. There really is a real chance of that happening.
The whole world is tired of same-old-same.
Voters are starting to see right through the empty promises of career politicians; and the fact is, they are gatvol.
It’s the reason why they vote for seemingly ordinary people like Donald Trump and Emmanuel Macron of France.
These are men who came from nowhere, were mocked by the political establishment, but then took every career politician by surprise.
It doesn’t mean that it’s right; it just means ordinary people are having their say by the only means they have: their vote.
Malema rightly points out that he has some very distinct advantages, one of which is the stink his EFF continue to raise in Parliament, which is giving them free and widespread publicity.
It just so happens that their rebellious (and often rude) attitude in Parliament plays to the country’s youth, who identify with rebellion.
They also happen to be the largest electorate in the country.
The majority of them are also justifiably disgruntled, as so many of them are unemployed and face a future without prospects.
It’s an explosive mix that may end up benefiting Malema, who makes all the right noises.
But let’s not forget that he wasn’t always the saviour he would like us all to think he is.
He also has a past that includes riches gained through some very questionable means.
This is the man who at one stage was prepared to kill and die for Zuma.
And once Zuma kicked him to the curb, only then did he turn against the man.
And those actions alone should raise many questions about Malema’s character and motives.
But nothing makes sense anymore in the world of politics and I suspect Malema knows that all too well.
Now that he has his degree in Political Leadership, he must be figuring that if America can elect an openly racist, sexist, power hungry, truth bending, privileged, narcissist into power, then he stands a very good chance.
Hopefully by then he would’ve finished his Philosophy degree and I will be writing a very different commentary.
