Aussies’ struggle is for real

HEADACHE: Oz's Michael Chieka

Allister Coetzee is not the rugby coach with the biggest headache in the southern hemisphere at the moment.

That dubious honour belongs to Wallabies boss Michael Cheika.

This past weekend the Australian Super Rugby sides once again failed to win a single match.

Even worse, they’ve all been the whipping boys of the tournament to date.

While New Zealand sides are clearly the best in the competition – and South Africa’s Lions managing to run with the big dogs, it’s the Aussies that have crumbled on a weekly basis this year.

And it doesn’t bode well for their chances in the Rugby Championship later this year.

The Brumbies are currently the top side in Australia.

But having won only three of their nine games to date, they have only amassed 18 log points.

If the tournament had an overall log, they would have been ninth on the log.

With the Conference system, though, the Brumbies are currently in fourth place.

So while South Africans are sweating on the performances of their teams, they are still in a better place than the Aussies as well as the Argentinians (Jaguares).

Still, it’s against the All Blacks and the French that Coetzee’s team will be measured and with a number of his players being out of form or injured, Cheika’s problems will unfortunately not relax the heat on Toetie…
