I hate to go on about the same subject too often, but you can’t help but be addicted to the evolving Arsene Wenger story at the Emirates.
How can such an accomplished coach face so much hatred from his own fans?
He really put them on the map and still delivers a side that competes at the top end of the English game.
I’ve tried looking at it from the perspective I have about Jose Mourinho.
Yes he screwed up and joined one of Chelsea’s biggest rivals, but I’ll always love the man for what he achieved at the Bridge.
Even during the down period following another Premier League title, I still backed him, we were sliding down the table, but I still got behind my team.
That’s surely the attitude a proper fan should take?
It’s not like there were obvious deficiencies in his ability, it was all about team and club politics behind the scenes that none of us could do anything about.
Stick with supporting your team, that’s the best thing you can do wherever they’re at.
But it just ain’t like that at Arsenal.
The youngsters who follow the club were born into the Premier League era and all they’re concerned about is winning silverware.
Treatment
I stick with my view on it and despite it seeming obvious that all the Gunners need is a couple of big players to create a spine, I still believe Wenger deserves better treatment.
OK, to be honest, following Arsenal’s defeat at Anfield on Saturday, I did second guess my thoughts.
I mean, is it possible that the French Professor has actually buckled and lost the plot?
He did appear a bit disturbed on the sideline. You know, the kind of look someone has following a nervous breakdown, wide-eyed, paranoid and unsettled.
Whatever I or any of his supporters think, you just can’t work out or defend benching Alexis Sanchez.
He’s probably the one player this season who’s consistently given his all for the club.
And to sit out a massive occasion like that just doesn’t add up.
The game completely changed in the second half once he was deployed.
Madness?
Suicidal
It was a suicidal decision that will be highlighted when he is inevitably shown the door, and added to the “Wenger Out” brigade.
It’s such a sorry situation when you hear fans saying “I hope we lose I hope we don’t make fourth place”.
The hope being that without European football, revenue will be affected and the board – being totally business-driven – will be forced into making a managerial change.
It’s going to be interesting to watch Arsenal tonight when Bayern Munich come to town to finish off their Champions League humiliation.
Will the fans turn up?
Will there be a huge protest?
Will Arsene end up in a psychiatric facility?
Ahhh, such great entertainment though. Don’t forget to tune into Arsenal Fan TV for further coverage!
