AB de Villiers has finally spoken out about his future.
And it’s still unclear just how much cricket the Proteas batting superstar will play for the national team.
He will be 33 years old next month and his wife is expecting another baby, so AB is starting to feel his age.
Thing is, he can’t say how much cricket he will be playing for the national team - especially in the Test arena.
With 106 five-dayers under his belt and over 8 000 runs in the bank, AB has been a stalwart in the past.
But after missing six Tests last year due to an elbow injury, he doesn’t look as vital to the cause as the Proteas won five of those games.
They also moered Australia 5-0 in an ODI series, so the question is do Faf du Plessis and his manne miss him?
AB has already given up the Test captaincy, which might be an indication that he really doesn’t smaak to be involved that much.
But look, as a man with a growing family, I do believe that AB is keen to spend some more time with wife and kids.
What gets to me, though, is this deal he has with Indian bat makers MRF.
They have the biggest names in the game on their roster.
After sponsoring legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara and Steve Waugh in the past, they have signed AB to join India superstar Virat Kohli as brand ambassadors.
The company has him down for three years for a reported R28m.
With him saying his dream is to play until at least the 2019 World Cup, he probably has to play for his country too to make that money.
But he has only planned to play Tests for SA against India later this year and Australia at the beginning of next year - probably to please the sponsors
I just wish he could show some more commitment to the national team as a batsman now.
