A fired-up Dale Steyn reckons the Proteas will be back at the top of the world Test rankings in no time.
South Africa won their first five-day series in four attempts when Steyn took match figures of 8/99 in a 204-run victory over New Zealand on Tuesday.
It was the Phalaborwa Express’ comeback match and Steyn feels that the Proteas have all found their mojo again.
He says: “After the World Cup, we just kind of stopped, we didn’t know what we were trying to achieve… why do we want to win games?
“Do we want to win a series? What does it all mean?”
Now that we know the team were experiencing a crisis, perhaps the poor performances of the last 15 months are understandable.
He adds: “I think we are in a great position right now.
“And what a wonderful story it will be in two years’ time when we go from No.7 to No.1 in the world again. That’s the focus and that’s the aim. The guys look like that’s what they want, they’re desperate and results like this prove that that’s where we want to go.”
