Staff members at Kismet Supply Store, on the corner of Park Road and Batts Road, say they got the fright of their lives when two armed suspects entered the winkel shortly after 8pm.
Workers were held at gunpoint and the skelms fled with an undisclosed amount of money.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel André Traut, confirmed the incident: “The circumstances surrounding a business robbery on Wednesday evening at around 8.15pm at a shop in Park Road in Wynberg, is being investigated following an incident where two suspects held staff at gunpoint and fled with cash.
“They are yet to be arrested.”
Saaied Bester, the coordinator of the Eden Safety and Security neighbourhood watch, says a spike in crime in the Wynberg area has resulted in more patrols being conducted.
“There has been a rise in robberies and break-ins in the area,” he says.
“We therefore conduct regular patrols in the area and have 50 active patrollers at night and 600 members.
“We work closely hand in hand with the SAPS, Law Enforcement and Prasa.
“We also do cross border patrols whereby we assist neighbouring areas.
“There is not one shop in the vicinity that was not robbed yet. Police in the area are extremely understaffed for our sector and that’s why we try and assist where we can.”
