A man is critical in hospital after he fell 15 metres from a rooftop at a city car dealership.
The unidentified man had been standing on a ladder inside Market Toyota in Christiaan Barnard Street, Cape Town, when he fell through the ceiling and landed in the middle of the floor.
ER24 paramedics stabilised the man on the scene while shocked customers and employees looked on.
The man, believed to be in his twenties, was then taken to hospital where he was in a critical condition last night.
It is unclear whether the man had been wearing any safety gear when he fell.
ER24’s Russel Meiring explains: “It is understood the man had fallen off a ladder, falling through the ceiling and landed on the floor 15 metres below.”
A manager of Market Toyota, who didn’t want to be named, refused to comment, only saying: “I cannot comment about the case, I will ask SMG to call you.”
The injured man works for signage company SMG, and had been putting up signs this week.
SMG manager Martin Roland confirmed their employee underwent surgery.
