The chill of winter has finally arrived in the Cape, and nowhere is the cold and rain felt more harshly than among poorer communities on the Flats.
That is why it is so heart-warming to see mense stick their hands in their pockets to help those less fortunate than themselves.
And now these primary school children are reg for winter, thanks to the generous people at Party with a Purpose Productions.
On Saturday, winter school uniforms were handed over to 115 learners during a function at Ravensmead High School.
Kit-A-Kid for Winter is one of the company’s flagship projects, and has been hailed by principals all over the Cape.
Kids from different primary schools - Belhar, Gardenia, Vorentoe, Uitsig, Euricon and Pinedene - were blessed with a box of goodies with their names printed on it.
The brains behind Party with a Purpose, Chad Abrahams, says it’s often the little things that make the biggest difference in people’s lives.
“We take on these projects to make a difference in the lives of the children. We cannot possibly change the world, but the absolute relief on the faces of the kids when they see their names printed on the labels...that is our reason for it all,” says Chad.
This year, they collected jackets, beanies, scarves and gloves for the kids and invited speakers from the departments of education and community safety, Pick n Pay, Cape Spice and Herb, the Pink Ladies, The Butterfly Project and Come and Play.
There were fun activities for the excited children, informative presentations for parents, and of course, plenty of food and warm drinks.
Chad’s team has been collecting the goodies for months, by hosting a supper or lunch and inviting people to donate the items required.

In the past they have also done book collections, resulting in massive donations to underprivileged children in Cape Town.
“We do this with our hearts and pray that we can get it done by the deadlines we set for ourselves,” explains Chad.
“We hope that people can learn and start assisting their communities and our project. It is as simple as wanting to give one child something special.”
