If you spot Clint White in your hood, stop and sign his book immediately.
Clint is a huge fan of Olympic champ Wayde van Niekerk, so much so that he’s created a book where fans can send messages to the new 400m world record holder.
The entrepreneur from Heideveld has been taking a taxi into the Cape Town CBD everyday, walking around and visiting businesses to collect messages for Wayde.
Clint says the groot boek was donated by an art supply shop.
He says after seeing Wayde win over the world in Rio, he wanted to do something to keep that memory forever, as Wayde made a lot of people feel proud to be South African.
“With social media he will be getting a lot of messages, but he’ll never be able to keep all of them,” says Clint.
He says Wayde has thanked him on Twitter, while he met the athlete’s dad, Wayne van Niekerk, who couldn’t thank him enough for what he is doing.
After signing Clint’s book, Tammy Roberts says: “I feel privileged, because Wayde comes from the Cape Flats. So he didn’t just make South Africa proud, he is making the Cape Flats proud.”
Once the book is full, Clint hopes to find a sponsor who will fly him to Bloemfontein so he can hand the book to Wayde.
