Shortly before 2pm, two gunmen who are allegedly members of the Dollar Kidz gang, walked up to Reagan Jagers, 18, and shot him in the chest.
His grandmother, Dolene Henkeman, says she had just come from the hospital when she heard he had been shot.
Dolene says she doesn’t know why her grandson was killed.
“He lived in Erie Court but was not a gangster. They called him Chiney,” she says.
SLAIN: Reagan Jagers, 18
Lieutenant-Colonel Desmond Laing, acting station commander of Philippi Police Station, says following the shooting officers chased after the suspects.
“They handed the guns over to two women who were waiting for them at the taxi terminus. We caught one suspect near Devon Court and the community attacked the police and freed the suspect,” says Laing.
A police source believes Jagers was a member of the Ghetto Kidz gang. The source also says that in recent weeks the Ghetto Kidz, the Laughing Boys and the Mongrels have teamed up to take on the Americans in a bloody turf war.

He says the Dollar Kidz are affiliated to the Americans gang.
While the Daily Voice attended the murder scene, a resident spotted the second suspect in the police van and shouted: “Hier’s daai * ***”.
Residents then surrounded and attacked the police van and demanded cops hand the suspect over.
Laing stopped one of the residents, a man, from opening the van and residents started attacking police, throwing bricks at officers and vehicles.
Officers were forced to abandon the murder scene and regrouped elsewhere in Hanover Park where back-up was called to assist.
They returned and when residents attacked officers again, they retaliated by firing rubber bullets to disperse the crowd around the murder scene.
Laing says four police officers were injured and four vehicles damaged in the riot.
Philippi Police spokesperson, Captain Lance Goliath, says the damaged vehicles will hamper visible policing in Hanover Park.
Police confirmed that two witnesses of Jagers’ murder agreed to give statements.
