Two men were seriously injured when their car crashed through a fence and fell onto train tracks near Parow Station in Cape Town in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Shortly after midnight paramedics from ER24 and Life Healthcare found the car lying on its roof on the tracks, ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak said.
The duo were trapped inside the car.
Vermaak says: “Rescue workers from Metro Rescue and the local Fire Department had to stabilise the vehicle in order to extricate the two men from the vehicle. Once freed, paramedics were able to completely assess the patients and their injuries. Both sustained multiple fractures and lacerations.
“They were later transported by ER24 and Metro EMS through to Tygerberg Hospital for further care.”
The cause of the accident is unknown added Vermaak.
