Thuli Madonsela is among 21 nominees Parliament received for public protector job.
“The nominations received include, among others, the |current serving public protector, advocate Thuli Madonsela, as well as her deputy Kevin Malunga,” said Makhosi Khoza, chairwoman of Parliament’s ad hoc committee tasked with recommending the next public protector.
The Constitution however precludes Madonsela from serving a second term, as the public protector may only serve for a period of seven years. Madonsela’s term of office expires in October.
Khoza never disclosed the other nominees, only saying there were “interesting” nominations, and the committee will have a “difficult time deciding the shortlist”.
