There was chaos outside Goodwood Magistrates’ Court yesterday when an alleged 28s gang member was shot and wounded.
The man, believed to be in his 30s, was on his way to court along with four others, when they came under fire in Voortrekker Road outside the court.
The unidentified man, who had just parked his silver and grey two-door Citi Golf, ran for cover as several shots rang out.
He was hit in the hip by a single bullet that exited in front, missing his penis by inches, according to witnesses.
Goodwood SAPS station commander, Colonel Hansraj, says the shooter fled.
“Four occupants were on their way to Goodwood Magistrates’ Court from Elsies River,” Hansraj says.
“As they entered the Goodwood area, they were shot at by a suspect believed to be from the 26 gang.
“The suspect was picked up by a vehicle and fled the scene.”
The other three occupants did not sustain any injuries.
He adds: “At this stage SAPS can confirm that it is a gang-related shooting and the matter is still under investigation.
“A case of attempted murder has been opened at Goodwood SAPS and nobody has yet been arrested.”
