Tauriq Claasen was stabbed in the neck in Cassia Street, Uitsig, on Monday.
The boy was at a tuck shop and ran home bleeding but collapsed outside a neighbour’s house in Carnation Avenue.
The Grade 5 pupil attended Uitsig Primary, and was described as an avid sportsman who loved soccer. He was also in the cadet squad at his school.
Yesterday, his grandmother Wilhelmina Adams, 66, said Tauriq was to attend a church service on Monday night.
Cards made by his classmates stand on a table along with his photograph.
“I raised Tauriq since he was a little baby,” the granny says.
“His mother lives in a Wendy house on the property.
“On Monday, a man from our church asked him to attend church with him. I didn’t see him leave the house.”

A few minutes later, the grandmother was called to the street where Tauriq lay bleeding.
“‘When I saw him, I saw he had been stabbed in the neck.
“We were calling the ambulance teams but when I touched Tauriq, I saw that he had passed away already.”
Wilhelmina says the family do not know the motive behind the stabbing.
“We do not know why this happened. We heard at first the boy is 13 and then that he is 11 years old.”
Daily Voice visited the house of the alleged stabber, where a woman refused to comment.
“The law must take its course,” was all she said.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana confirms a suspect is yet to be arrested.
“This office can confirm that the circumstances surrounding the death of a 13-year-old boy are being investigated after he was stabbed,” she says.
