An all-day “hackathon” aimed at tackling community challenges will take place in Khayelitsha in the next two weeks.
The City of Cape Town says at the 24-hour event, called the Smart Communities Hackathon, teams will aim to find innovative solutions to existing challenges in communities.
“The issues that these teams will look at include the incremental upgrading of informal settlements, safety and security, water and sanitation, healthcare, and education,” said Priya Reddy, the spokeswoman for the City of Cape Town.
Reddy said the focus areas were identified at a pre-event meeting which involved all relevant stakeholders.
The winning team who comes up with the strongest ideas and solutions will walk away with a cash prize of R10 000 while its leader will participate in a three-month VeloCiTi incubation programme with the Bandwidth Barn.
