Macheano was shot dead two weeks ago when gunmen opened fire on a group of men sitting outside his house.

The youngest victim of the Delft gang violence has been laid to rest.

Hundreds of residents on Saturday attended the funeral of four-year-old Macheano Geswindt, carrying his tiny white coffin through the streets.

The little boy was shot dead two weeks ago when gunmen opened fire on a group of men sitting outside his Delft house.

The boy died in hospital after a bullet hit him in the stomach.

Yesterday his father Martin Beyers, 40, said he suspects the gunmen came for one of the two other men who was injured in the incident.

Soos ek voel kan hulle maar vir my ook skiet,” he tells Daily Voice.

Martin says he is still struggling to come to terms with his son’s death.

“It still hurts, the house is so quiet without him, even the dog and cat look for him because he used to play with them,” he says.

“Since then we all live in fear, we always have to be on the lookout because you never know if they will come back.”

Police sources previously told the Daily Voice the shooting was drug related and that Martin was a suspected drug dealer.

But the grieving father denies this.

“I am not a drug dealer,” he insists.

“I was never involved in drugs or gangs. I don’t know why they came to shoot here.”

Police spokesperson Captain Frederick van Wyk says two suspects were arrested in connection with the shooting and have already appeared in court.
