ZIM NO.1: Mison Sere

A retired judge is looking the country's ugliest man.

If you’ve always wanted to take part in Mr South Africa but felt you were not mooi enough, now there’s a beauty pageant tailor-made for you.

A retired high court judge is looking for the country’s lelikste man.

The “Mr Ugly” pageant will be held in Mtubatuba, KwaZulu-Natal, at the Bit by Bit nightclub, which is owned by former judge David Ntshangase.

The pageant is the first of its kind in South Africa, although its counterpart has long been held in Zimbabwe, where Mison Sere is the reigning king.

Ugly ouens will compete for a grand prize of R1 000, while the runner-up will walk away with R500.

“Ugly and fat people are among the most discriminated against people. You always get beautiful people competing and no one gives ugly people a chance to showcase themselves,” said Ntshangase.

Ntshangase, who said he’s “not handsome myself”, has received four applications so far.

“Reaction has been good because we only announced the competition at the weekend.”

The pageant will be held on September 3.
