The public broadcaster was fined R10 000 for airing Thapelo Diale’s number in an Isidingo episode in November 2016.
According to Diale, she has been inundated by hundreds of telephone calls from soapie fans who heaped torrents of verbal abuse on her.
The origin of her nightmare was traced back to the filming of an episode of Isidingo last year when Shona Ferguson, who plays Tyson Mokoena was asked by a director to come up with a cellphone number for another character.
There was no number in the script so a random number was chosen and read out during the episode that aired in November.
But the number turned out to be that of Diale’s, whose work at a railway consortium was seriously disrupted.
The consequences were “unprecedented extraordinary and serious” the Broadcasting Complaints Commission of South Africa (BCCSA) said.
Her cellphone rang so much her employer served her with a warning letter.
The SABC offered an on-air apology, but Diale was not happy with that.
