A gangster was gunned down just days after he returned home, tired from being on the run.
Jameson Frans, a 28s prison gangster, told his mother on Saturday that he was done running for his life.
Three days later, Jameson, 25, was shot dead outside his home in Range Road, Elsies River.
He had been on the run for nearly a year.
His mother Myrtle Frans, 47, says she believes her son was ready to die and made peace with his fate.
She tells the Daily Voice: “A few minutes after he left the house, I heard the gunshots and I knew it was for him.
“I always feared for his life because he was a member of the 28s gang. I knew sooner or later they were going to shoot my child.”
Jameson’s sister Elbertina Frans, 21, says she was with her brother minutes before he was shot.
“When he came home on Saturday he said he is tired of running for his life,” she says.
“I stood next to him [on Tuesday night] and just as my friend and I walked away, we heard the gunshots.
“He didn’t die immediately, he was still alive and died on his way to hospital,” she adds.
Police spokesperson Captain Frederick van Wyk says a murder case was opened for investigation.
“At about 6.10pm police members attended to a shooting incident that occurred at Edenvale Court where they found the victim on the ground fatally wounded,” Van Wyk says.
“A murder case was opened for investigation,” he adds.
