Two suspects who were caught with a rocket launcher in their possession last week made their first court appearance.
Ashley Snyders and Randall Stander appeared in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
The two were arrested behind Zevenwacht Mall on Tuesday night when police searched the “suspicious looking” silver Toyota Corolla they were in.
A high explosive RPG7 rocket launcher was found in the car.
Cop sources claim the vehicle belongs to the wife of convicted 28s gang boss George “Geweld” Thomas.
But Shamiela Thomas insists the car is not hers or her husbands, and told the Daily Voice she “knows nothing about the case”.
Last year Geweld was sentenced to life plus 175 years in prison for crimes he committed between 2006 and 2010.
He was accused of carrying out killings and ordering a number of hits from behind bars.
Meanwhile, Snyders and Stander are expected back in court on Friday for bail information ahead of their formal bail application.
Tuesday’s arrest came a week after police found a cache of arms buried in a bag at a cemetery in Kleinvlei.
On the evening of August 9, police found a Mowzer hunting rifle with a telescope, a .22 silencer, one smoke grenade, one stun grenade, seven detonators, three R4 magazines, 67 R1 rounds, 14 30/06 rounds and two BME Megamite 29 cartridges with two connector caps.
Cops are yet to make an arrest in connection with the arms.
