A popular Cape Flats take-aways has been robbed.
On Tuesday night, Bona Fast Foods in Victoria Road, Grassy Park, whose lekker gatsbies have become staple food for mense on the Flats, was attacked by a gang of armed men.
The brazen robbers stormed into the shop at 9pm, demanding cash and threatening staff.
The money-hungry thieves then made off with the manager’s black BMW M5 and a customer’s Ford Focus, as well as an undisclosed amount of cash.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana says the suspects are still at large.
“A case of an armed robbery has been opened for investigation,” she says.
“According to information, the incident occurred on 11 March at 9pm [when] three armed unknown suspects entered the business premise and threatened the victims with firearm and demanded money.
“The suspects fled the scene with the manager’s black BMW M5, a silver Ford Focus that belongs to one of the customers and an undisclosed amount of money.
“No one has been arrested at this stage,” Rwexana said.
The Daily Voice yesterday spoke to the manager of Bona, who says staff were fearful.
The female manager, who asked not to be named, says there were six - and not three - armed men who robbed them.
“It was about 9pm and six armed robbers came into the store,” she says.
“Myself and the staff all feared for our lives and the business. Fortunately no one was injured.”
The woman says they’ve been on high alert and called on police to increase patrols and respond quicker.
“Crime has increased in the area lately and there was a murder close to the store on Saturday, so now we are fearful of the crime within the area because one of the male family members of the victim called the police and they never came,” she adds
The murder victim, Neville Harris, 33, was stabbed to death by two men on mountain bikes, after he came to fetch his brother, Howard Marinus, 42, at Bona.
The take-aways was open for business yesterday.
