Ocean View residents went on a rampage yesterday following the murder of a well-known Rastafarian in the area.
Protesters shut Kommetjie Road with burning rubble and tyres and accused police of not doing anything to find the man’s killers.
Donald Joseph, 45, died after being shot twice in the face allegedly by gangsters on Tuesday.
According to his friend, who asked not to be named, they were angry that no arrests had been made and wanted police to hear their frustrations.
“We are toyi-toying here now because he was killed. That is all I will say.”
Police spokesperson, Sinathi Joni, says the shooting happened at 8.35pm on Tuesday.
“A 45-year-old man was fatally wounded with gunshot wounds to his face. A murder case has subsequently been registered and circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated with no arrests made at this stage.”
It is unclear what led to the shooting, but the man’s friend says the shooting did not happen in the Rasta Camp at the top of Ocean View.

Jaque le Roux, of the Deep South Animal Welfare organisation, described Joseph as a peaceful animal lover who was well-loved by stray cats and dogs.
“I have known him for about 10 years and he was such a peaceful man. He took in all the stray cats and dogs around Ocean View and would care for them. His pets were always well looked after. He had this thing when it was feeding time, he would bang on the side of his house and all the cats would come running,” he says.
Le Roux says he’s still in shock after Joseph’s murder.
“Ocean View is in an uproar over the murder. The gang violence is really bad. We are all still in shock that he is gone and it is a huge loss to the community. They murdered an innocent, peaceful man,” he says.
