The taxi driver accused of sexually assaulting a five-year-old child in his care has to wait another week before he hears whether he will be released on bail.
The 41-year-old man made a brief appearance in Caledon Magistrates’ Court yesterday where the court was informed that an alternative address provided by the suspect has to be checked out by authorities first.
The Genadendal man, who cannot be named until he has pleaded, was arrested on a charge of rape at the start of February in connection with the incident that allegedly took place on 29 July.
According to reports, he sexually assaulted a five-year-old girl by penetrating her with his finger while waiting in the taxi for learners in Myddleton outside Caledon.
The suspect’s parole conditions also have to be established as he was released on parole one year ago after serving several years for raping a disabled woman from Genadendal.
Meanwhile, a relative of his previous victim feels the suspect is siek in sy kop.
“He needs help because he’s going to keep on doing this every time he comes out of jail,” she states.
