The “shot-spotter” system initiated by City safety chief JP Smith last year, whereby gunshots can be traced immediately, helped cops to respond to the fatal shooting of two men in Sherwood Walk.
The men, aged 33 and 36, were killed just before 3am.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel André Traut confirmed the shooting, but says no arrests have been made yet.
“Two males were fatally injured subsequent to a shooting incident that occurred in Sherwood Walk in Hanover Park on Wednesday, 26 April at 2.50am. According to information, the unknown suspects fled the scene after the crime. A murder case has been opened and an investigation is underway,” he said.
Hours later, while cops were on foot patrol, brazen gunmen opened fire at the local bus station and killed a man and left a firearm behind.
Police reacted to the gunshots and found people running for cover at the Hanover Park bus terminus, where they found a 33-year-old man with several gunshot wounds to his body just after 1pm.
A 9mm pistol with a magazine lay on the ground near a local shop.
Cops confiscated seven cartridges at the scene and say the suspects fled on foot.
Traut says cops are investigating whether the shooting is gang-related.
“Police seized the firearm and magazine,” he says.
“Cops proceeded to the place where members of the public gathered and found the body of a 33-year-old male with several gunshot wounds to his body.
“Police are investigating a case of murder.”
In a separate incident, at 11.40pm, cops were called to Hercules Road, Mitchells Plain, where a 14-year-old girl was shot in the arm by an unknown suspect who is yet to be arrested.
