FINED: Penny Sparrow
The Oliver and Adelaide Tambo Foundation yesterday kept mum on whether it would accept Penny Sparrow’s “racist” money.

The Equality Court last month found Sparrow guilty of hate speech and fined the disgraced KwaZulu-Natal estate agent R150 000, which she has to pay over to the foundation.

However, the foundation’s Nolwazi Kunene would not be drawn to comment on the matter.

“The foundation is not commenting on the Sparrow issue now unfortunately. The board will meet and deliberate on the matter soon,” said Kunene.

She would not say when the meeting would take place.

On top of the fine, Judge Irfaan Khalil also ruled that Sparrow pay the costs of the African National Congress (ANC) legal team that brought the complaint against her for her racist rant on Facebook in January.

Sparrow referred to black people as “monkeys” that litter the beach.

Sparrow was not in court last week, her daughter Charmaine Cowrie appeared instead and told Khalil that her mom did not know what to do about the matter. Cowrie told the hof her mom didn’t have a lawyer as no one wanted to represent her.
