R2 000 for info on ‘mom killer’

Hit and run victim, Wilhelmina Adams, 78, was knocked down in Langeberg Road, Tafelsig.

Family offers reward that may lead to driver’s arrest.

The family of an elderly woman who was killed in a hit and run is still searching for clues, more than a week after her death.

In a desperate attempt to have her killer brought to justice, the family is now offering a reward for information that can lead to an arrest.

On Thursday, June 23, Wilhelmina Adams, 78, was killed after she was hit by a car in Langeberg Road, Tafelsig, Mitchells Plain.

She was walking home from her daughter’s house when she was was mowed down while crossing the road.

The impact sent her flying more than 30 metres from where she was hit.

A day after the tragedy, the family went on a door-to-door campaign, in an attempt to help find the killer driver.

But their search has been fruitless thus far, and now Wilhelmina’s family is offering a R2 000 reward to anyone who can assist with information on the driver, or the car.

According to eyewitnesses, Wilhelmina was hit by a white VW Polo with a damaged windscreen, and the left side of the car was also damaged.

The granny was laid to rest on Saturday.

“We have done everything but there is still no arrest,” granddaughter Letecia Adams, 32, tells the Daily Voice.

“We had our door-to-door campaign and no one could tell us anything.

“Now we are offering a reward in the hope that someone will come out and tell us something.”

Wilhelmina, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, was buried exactly a week after her brother’s funeral.

Her son, Vincent, has urged the driver to turn himself in.

“We don’t want to do anything (to the driver) we just want to encourage you to do the right thing. Our mother was old and we expected her to die, just not like this,” he says.
